One of the highest rated Spanish schools in Chicago since 2002!
SpanishLC officially started operating in December 2001. It did not take long for positive reviews from our students to start apearing online. We'd like to share some of those comments with you.
Please be assured that you will definitely enjoy taking classes with our well trained instructors and following our thorough and very effective methodology... most importantly, you will definitely learn to Speak Spanish!
Please drop by a comment at any time. We always like to hear what our current and former students have to say about us.

- SLC is the place to be!
Posted on 11/28/2005 by graceotrl (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I came to SLC when they 1st opened.I found out about SLC from the website merely by chance. The site was informative & I called right away & its founder and main instructor, Juan was very helpful and made me feel at ease with my level of Spanish. I've only taken Spanish in H.S. & just picked it up from friends or people that spoke the language.Since I work in an area that speaks predominantly Spanish, I wanted to perfect my fluency.I've participated in a variety of classes that SLC offers i.e.Conversation classes, Private classes, and even a grammar class focusing on the use of subjunctive. Beside Juan, I've had Lourdes & Carolina as teachers, and each one of them are very professional, knowledgeable, flexible, & most importantly very patient.I believe I've made the right decision in choosing SLC as my school for Spanish and I would recommend it for anyone!
Pros: convenient, now 2 locations, affordable
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - GOING BILINGUAL!
Posted on 11/23/2005 by brunoant (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I take the private clases at Spanish Language Center. They let me skip classes -- with at least 24 hours notice -- and not get charged for the class. I have learned much quicker than I would have in a class environment -- all fourteen tenses of the Spanish language in a year. Now I am nearing my two-year anniversary at SLC and I can understand fast-talking spanish speakers on television and at restaurants, read the spanish newspapers too! They have a nice mix of teachers from different Latin countries. This allows me to hear different idiomatic expressions from the different regions -- something that formal Spanish lessons don't teach.

- Excelente!
Posted on 11/22/2005 by kgovoni7 (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I recently started taking classes at the Spanish language center and could not ask for a better situation. From the start, I was made to feel comfortable and the small class size allows for personal attention and individual guidance. Everyone is treated as a friend and the atmosphere is nothing but relaxed, as well as interactive. Class members must participate and practice their skills in the Spanish language, therefore, not a penny is wasted. Class discussion topics are always interesting and I learn valuable new vocabulary and Spanish grammar with each session. The staff is courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. This is attested by the numerous students who have continued taking classes for the last two years, not because they continue to need practice, but simply because they enjoy the SLC! This is a great place to take classes if you just want to brush up, improve upon, or learn Spanish!
Pros: small class size, affordable, excellent professors
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - Wonderful and Highly Recommended
Posted on 11/21/2005 by mjvernon (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I came into the Spanish Language Center with zero talent in languages and no experience with Spanish. After two years of classes, however, I'm very pleased with my progress. The instructors have been native speakers, very professional and able to tailor instruction to my needs.
I would recommend SLC to anyone interested in learning Spanish for the first time, or whether they simply want to improve their skills.Pros: Experienced Teachers, Personal Service, Good Value
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - Worth my time
Posted on 11/21/2005 by amanda_s (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I have been taking Spanish conversation classes for about 3 years here. I am a busy professional and value my time. I can honestly say that the Spanish Langauge Center (SLC) is worth my time, and they've kept the instruction fees at a reasonable rate over the years. I had previously studied Spanish for over 2 years at 2 other Spanish insitutions in Chicago. I prefer the SLC for two main reasons: 1) they are willing to work with my schedule and areas I want to focus on; 2) they teach Spanish spoken locally (continental Spanish is also available). I left one of the previous schools (although they also offered good curriculum) because I did NOT find their instruction in continental Spanish helpful at all (The Latino population in the US mainly come from Mexico and Latin America, not people from Spain who speak continental Spanish!).
Pros: Pratical/ready-to-use, Accomodating, Price

Posted on 11/20/2005 by rmp4 (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I have been a student at the Spanish Language Center since July 2002, and I have been very happy with my experience. Before coming to SLC, I studied Spanish for two years at an Ivy League university, and the quality of education I have received at SLC has been just as good - if not better. Juan Guillermo Cortez and his instructors are extremely professional and prepared and knowledgeable about the language. My Spanish has improved considerably, and I can now carry on a conversation confidently when traveling to Mexico for work. I look forward to attending class each week, and I know my classmates feel the same way. I am confused by the previous review, since my experience has been very positive. I intend to continue studying at the Spanish Language Center. Highly recommended!
Pros: Professional, Enjoyable, Convenient
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - Muy bueno
Posted on 08/10/2005 by mthsu (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I've had my share of dodgy language professors, who just go through the motions. But Juan Guillermo Cortez and his staff are professional, highly organized, and committed individuals who take a personal and personable approach to your instruction.
Pros: organized, dedicated, flexible
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - I moved to Mexico

- Expert in language education
Posted on 12/12/2004 by jlstephe (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)I have been a student at the Spanish Language Center for a little over 2 years. I have been thoroughly impressed with the instructors there. I have learned more in these 2 years than I did in 6 years instruction in high school and college for German. I am able to have intelligent conversations in Spanish, using my skills overseas, and I am even able to read novels.
The class size has been between 2-5 people since I began, and the instructors are experts in the Spanish language.
I couldn't imagine going anywhere else, and I plan to continue my instruction until completely fluent.Overall user rating: Highly Recommended
- Learn at your own speed
Posted on 03/12/2003 by robyngalbos_citysearch (In order to contact this Citysearch user you must do so through Citysearch.com)The classes at the Spanish Language Center are great for any student at any level. The instructors are thorough and extremely patient. Class sizes are very small (usually around six to eight people max) so you get plenty of personal attention. Private lessons are available for those who prefer to work at their own pace. Highly recommended.
Pros: Patient instructors, Comprehensive classes
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended - SUPERB!
