Group Class Levels - Click Here for Courses at a Glance

Group Spanish classes are divided into the following four levels:

  1. Introductory is for students who have no prior - or minimum - experience with Spanish, its grammar or its pronunciation. This level covers the basics. Emphasis is on pronunciation, basic grammar, vocabulary and then the application with the seven basic actions in order to develop or improve communication in present, past and future. This level is covered in 16 group classes (24 hours). More details course by course.
  2. Beginners is for students who have completed Introductory level, or who have some other previous Spanish experience, studies and/or understanding. The knowledge and understanding of the material covered in the previous level is a prerequisite. Pronunciation should not be an obstacle and some conjugation should be recognized. This level includes all the Indicative tenses and is covered in 5 courses: Beginners 0 (for first time students with SpanishLC to review the foundation) and Beginners 1, 2, 3 and 4. More details course by course.
  3. Intermediate is for students who have completed the Beginner level courses or new students who feel comfortable and familiar with the the Indicative tenses in Spanish (present, preterit, imperfect, future and conditional). The focus of this level is on presenting and mastering the use of the subjunctive. New students to our school must first take a review class. The Intermediate course is divided into 5 sub-levels: Intermediate 0 (conversational with review) and Intermediates 1, 2, 3, 4. More details course by course.
  4. Advanced is for students who are knowledgeable about the language; can speak it and understand it, but need to practice and review advanced grammar such as Subjunctive, Compound tenses, Passive Voice, etc. Fluency is required. This level is only conversational. Classes are conducted by an advanced instructor whose job is to keep the conversation flowing while monitoring to intervene with assistance for proper pronunciation, vocabulary, proper sentence structuring and grammar explanations when needed. More details course by course.

Class Dynamics

"Speaking a language is the ability of repeating things that one has said before." - Juan G. Cortez, SpanishLC founder and director

Therefore it is every instructor's mission to lead conversational classes; to enforce oral participation constantly; to make sure that everyone speaks! In our classes, everyone speaks! No way out.

All classes cover specific grammar and conversation accordingly to the level. All class exercises and participation are oral. Class participation is a must. Grammar is explained in a comprehensible manner for a better understanding of the structuring and its immediate application.

Class Size

Group classes are commonly small. Average size for a group may vary between 6 to 12 students. Smaller groups may seat 2 or 3 students and the larger groups may seat up to 18.
